Virginia photographs, 1896-1939.

The collection contains photographs from various Virginia locales particularly Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Luray, Richmond, and Staunton. The majority are studio portraits. Identified photographs from Charlottsville include a house party at Tiverton, 1939; J.E. Kelly in front of the Albemarle Telephone Company building; Poe Room, University of Virginia; Charlie Garrison; Dabney Carr at Aspen Hill Farm; Mattie Pyne Waddell; Luther Sandride and Robert Herndon. Photographic studios indlude R.W. Holsinger, Wampler Excelsior Art Gallery, E.F. Fisher Studio, and Gitchell's New Era Studio. Unidentified Harrisonburg photographs are from Dean's Studio. Luray photographs from S.K. Wright and Brenlen & company include one man in religious garb. Richmond photographs from Campbell & Co., Layton Studio, Davis Studio and W.W. Foster include Emma Lou Shoemaker, 7 weeks and a girl with a Christmas tree ornament. Staunton photographs from the studios of Berkeley, B.A. Blakemore & son, Hoge-Berkeley Studio, A.L. Hook, D.J. Landes Palace Gallery; and Walter Studio include one of Mary Baldwin music professor C.F.W. Eisenberg. The collection also contains a photograph of Walter G. Rogers by Phillips & Cole of Alexandria; and unidentified subjects by J.M. Hill of Bridgewater, Hodges Art Gallery of Bristol, S.S. Griffith & Co. of Clifton Forge, Hiserman of Waynesboro, J. b. Wortham of Winchester, and the Morrison Studio of Woodstock.
